I did it. With surgical precision, I cancelled Grey’s Anatomy from my DVR scheduled recordings. It’s been a long time coming…a season and a half, in fact. Perhaps its writers began striking prior to season 3. My biggest grievance with the show is that the plot never advances. It’s like a soap opera- you can watch it a year later and McDreamy and Meredith’s relationship will be the same…completely undefined. My Rx: Take an hour of my life back every week and start reading The Pillars of the Earth. Stat.

“Take an hour of my life back every week and start reading”
Sound advice and action for everyone.

Grey’s Anatomy, not so much.
Willey Wonka, definitely.

on the same note, (this seems a little low brow), but when I was in college one of my frat brothers had an adult movie based on Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It was called Willy’s Wonka. That will always pop in my head during church, interviews, funerals, and closed door meetings. I can never hide the smile either.

Wow.
Reading brain surgery instructions would look easier in comparison.

George- I started Pillars this morning…so far, so good, but I think it will take me a while. I usually only read when I’m on the stepmill/treadmill.
Billy- I love Willie Wonka- the original, that is. A “frat brother” owned the movie? Sure he did.
Eileen- What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to sleep with all of our co-workers. Sheesh. That chart helped put the lunacy in perspective for me.

I’ve been pondering this move myself for quite some time. I think I totally gave up when George and Izzy hooked up (I have personal issues with Kathryn Heigl anyway… not like I know her, she just bugs). Slugs in my backyard move faster than Derek and Meredith.
And with the strike on, what’s on these days?
1. Rock of Love II: You know I’m all over that; trashy girls and a washed up singer of an 80s hair band (the most intriguing part of this show: is Bret Michaels going bald? He’s always wearing that stupid napkin on his head).
2. Scott Baio is 46 and Pregnant: I didn’t like him when he was Chachi, why should I care about his life now? He’s 46, a total man-whore, unemployed, doesn’t like kids and has a pregnant girlfriend, and can’t even handle cleaning his own house.
3. Celebrity Rehab: B and C list actors being weened off drugs. Do I need to go on?
Looks like if I watch TV it will be the new season of Ace of Cakes, Anthony Bordain, and whatever nutty lessons I can learn from the History Channel (The Exciting Life of Nails & Metal; The Story Behind Brick Making; Psychopaths Throughout the 70s). I’ve already kicked up the book reading a notch.

The George and Izzy thing was crazy. I secretly liked Scott Baio as Charles in Charge. Thanks for the current showing preview

Yes… but think, it would make really good blog fodder if GA were a blog.

Unrelated to you post, I like your new theme! I fiddle with mine but always end up going back to the theme I currently have.

Thanks! I couldn’t pass up a Willie Wonka chocolate factory scene.

And this is why you’re a better person than me. I can’t get myself to delete it, but I do tend to space out while watching it (read, do dishes, iron, clean the bathroom, dust). Maybe one day I’ll be able to sever that cord.

When I found myself wanting to re-watch the bomb episodes (part I and II) from Season 2 instead of the current episodes, I knew I was over it. These things take time

I think I was over Grey’s Anatomy last season too… it’s an epidemic! I loved it at first, but it’s just too far past the point of plausibility now. And it’s on at the same time as CSI. For some reason I can’t quite explain, I love CSI (Criminal Minds, Without a Trace, and Cold Case too). I’m a weirdo… I know.

George and Izzie? They never even had a spark. Callie was too good to throw away like that.
Burke and Christina? Ridiculous. She clearly didn’t love him like he loved her.
Meredith and McDreamy? Don’t get me started. I wanted her to end up with McVet. It would have been a great chance to see Chris O’Donnell regularly.
I have some anger issues with the writers.
I’ve never seen CSI (any location or crime specialty), Without a Trace, Cold Case, Law and Order, The Profiler, Bones, you name it. I like crime books, but have never had a hankering for the shows.

Oh yay! I’m so proud of you!
I could never ever get into this show, and when it was in its rise, and i was missing out, I was ostracized I tell you, ostracized!!

I actually hung onto Grey’s longer than I did “Desperate Housewives” (Hey, even guys can find SOMETHING interesting to look at on that show), but like you, finally got tired of the over-the-top drama that went nowhere.
My secret indulgences: Nip/Tuck and The Riches
BTW- Thanks for the comment over on my Blog!

I couldn’t handle it anymore when they had the very “Days of Our Lives”-ish amnesia ongoing saga.

What about Callie and McSteamy? I mean, I think Callie is great… but I think we all know that hook up would not have happened in the real world. And I agree completely about George and Izzy… It doesn’t really make sense, especially after he pined after Meredith for so long.
I miss McVet. I’ve had an enormous crush on Chris O’Donnell for years. Bad soap or not… I would still be watching if McVet was still in the mix.

Romi- I understand completely. I was ostracized about The Office until I finally gave in (and I’m glad that I did).
Dobeman- We only last one season with Desperate Housewives. I’ve heard good things about Nip/Tuck, though I don’t think I need to add any shows that I have to secretly watch (due to toddler). BTW, you had a great post today!
Matthew- I had forgotten about Ms. Ava Amnesia. So low. Next thing you know, a baby will be born and go through a magical age progression.
Allison- Would McSteamy hit on that heart surgeon in real life? (BTW, she was the woman help captive in the pit in Silence of the Lambs.) I agree, McVet might have redeemed the show.
