Tantrums & Sprinkles
March 27, 2008 by Allison
All of the following went into the production of these delicious Lemon-Cream Cheese Cupcakes: Laughter, tears, love, exasperated sighs, hugs, rolled eyes (that was me), encouragement and repeated requests orders not to eat the cake batter.

I let my toddler help me bake them. Don’t worry, nobody got hurt in the making of these cupcakes. It can be a real challenge to collaborate with a mini-me in the kitchen. Especially one who has no concerns about salmonella.
I am not sure when batter sampling became dangerous, because it sure wasn’t when we were kids.
After being yelled at by my husband a million times for eating raw cookie dough, I did some research on salmonella and learned that people with vulnerable immune systems (very young, very old, very ill) are especially susceptible to it. So I continue to eat my raw cookie dough, but am holding the imp back for a couple more years.
Ok, just read your response to raw cake batter. I now know that you have a good reason for not letting her eat cake batter. The cupcakes look great! Care to share the recipe?
Happily. You should be able to get there by clicking on “Lemon cream-cheese cupcake”.
Yum! Those looked really good. Eating raw batter/dough is my favorite part. To this day when I’m home visiting my mom she knows to give me the beaters before putting them in the dishwasher.
It’s devastating if the beaters get thrown in the sink before you get to them. So icky!
Those look great!
I like to make French Toast with my son in the morning. The problem is that he wants to “hatch the eggs” by himself. I too harbor the Fear of Salmonella! I think though that you can buy pasteurized eggs ($$$) that are supposed to be okay to eat raw. I just never remember to do that. But how can we raise children in our society without letting them taste batter? It’s not fair! It will result in millions of adolescent criminals. Perhaps the sick chickens are to blame.
I’m sure she’ll get her fair shot at salmonella when she’s a little older…don’t want to create a delinquent adolescent!
Beautiful photography!
Thank you! I actually tried to be photographer-ish about that shot.
Yep, always an adventure. The last time my son helped me cook muffins for breakfast, he missed when pouring the eggs into the batter and got three or four eggs all over the countertop. Yippee!
And I personally eat the raw batter, but my wife does not and won’t allow our son to, either. I think it’s related to the EH/ED phenomenon, actually.
You know I’m an ED, but I do try to be a little more careful with the little one than I do with myself.
Oooooh another good recipe to try out on Mr. J!
I am a batter-eater, beater-licker. (say that one fast)
He’ll like them! (and so will you)
I was highly hoping you would feel generous enough to share with certain co-workers? Hey, It was worth a try!! Those look Yummy
See you are having so many good turnouts to x out the one or two flops you have had. I love how you include pictures to make everyone drool as well!
Alas, I finished the last one last night. And the chocolate chip cookies were so unnecessary today. Am now feeling the need to go to the gym again
Those look SO de-lish! And I’ve never even heard of a “lemon-cream cheese” combo…you’re just wild
PS: that is a magnificent “gloss factor” you have going on the icing, well done
So glad you noticed the gloss factor
Okay, you’ve either got to stop posting all this yummy food OR you have to send us some.
I need to stop making this kind of yummy food. Summer is just around the corner.
