My search for a house felt more like an episode of Sex and the City than it did Househunters. Weeks of seeking the elusive ‘one’ filled with disappointment and dealbreakers. For one house, it was the multitude of healthy gum trees (read: gumballs); for another, the disconcerting and pervasive scent of body odor that permeated the structure. I began to lose hope (and patience) with each passing day.
And then I found it. The One. I knew it was the ‘one’ the second I saw the arched entranceway into the dining alcove…an alcove that had my dining table written all over it.

It had everything I wanted. Hardwood floors, space for my table, modern bath, charm, etc.

The house was built in 1940, a time when full-size beds were the norm (read: small bedrooms). What it lacks in size, it makes up for in character pieces such as crystal doorknobs and a built-in telephone stand.

I’ve unpacked all most of the boxes, begun planning my first project (painting the hallway), located the oven, and placed pictures on display. It feels like home now.

Hey this looks nice…and no radiators in the rooms…this means it was at least renovated once since the 40s. Nice Find!!!

Thanks so much for the cleaning referral. He did a great job (hence the shiny floors)!

How many hours would it take me to get to you?

Very nice. I also like the blend of old school mixed with modern.

Woohoo! There’s nothing like the feeling of walking in and having that light bulb go off and say “THIS IS IT.”
I wish it had happened in our current house the way it did with our awesome Midwestern house that we had to leave when I took the new job!

Lovely. Just lovely. I love smaller, older houses. I never got all the hoo-ha about having a huge bedroom. Don’t you just sleep there?
I’d rather have a gorgeous dining room and a built-in phone stand any day.

Yes it is a cute little place. Just right for a trixfiend and an imp? Congratulations.
We have found a full size bed to be more than adequate, but then, we seem to have sheet/blanket “alignment” problems at least a few times a year.

At the risk of sounding terribly insensitive, I’m thinkin’ I’ve REALLY missed a few happenings in your life. I can only guess what has happened and hope that it’s not the worst.
Either way, I hope you settle in and are very happy. And what’s up with this HUGE font when I type a “reply.” Wow! I feel old!

So glad you are back and getting settled. I love the new/old home. We have one, too – with the same gorgeous doorknobs (that keep falling off which makes for some great stories of people getting locked in bedrooms and bathrooms).
I’m sure you know this, but an old house will cost you. It has a hidden tunnel that sucks money out of your wallet and bank account. Luckily, it pays back – because no house feels more like a home than an old one.

Congrats! What an awesome looking house. There is something really great about living in a home that shared so many previous family lives.

Ooh! It’s beautiful! It actually looks a lot like my house, which was built in the twenties. Tons of the same features: crystal knobs, arched doorways, small bedrooms, lovely windows in the dining room … Enjoy your new nest!

Have I missed something here? This move sounds very much ‘I’ and not very ‘We’…
